Handbag Therapy

Okay, I have to come clean in this post. I'm a "bag lady". I have a ridiculous "collection" of cute and sassy bags. One particular brand of bag (that starts with a "C") is the main component of my collection. *Sigh*

For some reason, this week's sketch at The Paper Players blog inspired me to make a card about my obsession. Hmmm, is it a sign that it may be time for a new bag for the fall season? :)
The color combo came from.....me! I wanted to participate in a color challenge but decided to just let the sketch dictate the color combo. I really wanted to use the Greenhouse Gala DSP because I love the bright color mix of this paper.

Some time ago, I saw this cute idea to make these little "punch handbags" on Splitcoast Stampers (sorry, I can't remember exactly WHO it was)  and thought they would be fun on this card. The bags are made from the Round Tab, Curly Label and 1 1/4" Circle punches. I made the handles by double punching the  1 3/4" x 7/8" Oval punch and the 1 3/8" x 5/8" Oval punch. The little "flaps" on the bags were made with the Modern Label and 1 3/4" x 7/8" punches and accented with silver brads.
After I decided on the punches, I needed a cute image to go with them (yes, I do things backwards, I know). My friend Dawn gave me this sassy, little stamp last month as a gift. (She is so sweet!) I thought it would be PERFECT with this card. She looks like she's contemplating getting her  little mitts on a new bag, doesn't she? Just like me! Hee Hee!

I colored her in and then paper pieced her skirt to match one of the bags to tie in all of the colors. Then I added an itty-bitty dab of sparkle on her necklace and handbag so she would be perfectly accessorized. The sentiment just seemed so perfect because let's be honest, who doesn't LOVE a little "retail therapy" every now and again!

Have a great Saturday! I'm off to get some things ready for a BBQ we are hosting today. Maybe I can sneak in a little shopping trip, too...hmmmm!

  1. This card reminded me of the stamps over at Rubber Romance. You might want to visit her site. (SU! Demos do buy from other companies, don't they?) Great job on the card!

  14. I really like your combo of colors and patterns. The punch shape bags are really cute.

I just recently purchased a purse (on clearance at Target - nothing fancy for me). It is my first purse purchase in about 10 years and I only got a new one because my old one was totally worn out and the straps had been broken and repaired multiple times. I guess I'm not into purses like you are :-)
